Susan Cawthon
Painting and Mixed Media

I have taken my love of photography and used many of my photographs as models to create watercolors, acrylics, mixed media, copper and recycled metas and collage paintings.

Living in Southern California my major was Art in school and after starting a family I was always involved in something creative.  I taught kids art after school for the YWCA.  I was a teacher’s aide and taught special art classes during the school year.  I worked making costumes for the spokes models on “Star Search” and numerous local community college plays.

I did fashion display for women’s and junior fashion areas for J.C. Penney when I lived in Fresno, CA.  Since moving to Sacramento, I have been able to devote more time to painting and photography.  I have found both to be interchangeable which has led me to my current projects.

I have been painting now for over 20 years and occasionally teach classes in watercolor, acrylics and more.

I have been featured in The Guide ForThe Arts for winter 2005/2006 and in the Community Calendar in the Sacramento Bee April 2006.  Other articles can be found on the Examiner.com.  I’m proud to be one of the featured artists in her book “Artful Journeys” by Maria Soto, available on Amazon. My work has been seen in Taylor’s Art & Soul in Old Town Sacramento, CA in the Auburn Old Town Gallery in Auburn, CA, in the Blue Moon Gallery in Sacramento, CA, Blueline Gallery in Roseville, CA, High Hand Gallery in Loomis, CA, Lincoln Arts in Lincoln, CA, ACAI Studios in Fair Oaks, CA and at Artistic Edge Sacramento, CA.  I have also participated in the Verge Sac Open Studio Tour, opening my home for the event.

I am excited to now be showing at the Old Town Art Gallery Eureka.
